Red Tulips

Stars in the Night

What a night underneath a celestial canopy
Stars sparkle and seem to be hanging from a tree
Knarred branches reaching out so free
Entangled like roots form a tapestry

No need for moonlight in a spring night sky
No misuse of twilight a feast for the eye
Lover’s paradise for some not yet for I
Orion’s belt chastised me still wondering why

So cold in the season time for bride and groom
Still cold what’s the reason still blossoms bloom
Summer is waiting very still in its room
Near the door of last winter that still seems to loom

In the higher region time seems to get lost
Where lower land’s warming here still has some frost
A crescent moon peeks through where two branches cross
And hangs in the balance despite of the cost

I carefully look as I stand in the night
All the stars turning on some blue and some white
They glisten in silence and flashing so bright
Want to wait with them until morning but they’ll be alright

What a night here comes morning to start the day
And the dusting of diamonds is fading away
As this is only the month of May
The stars will come back and for a night they will stay

Penny Black

Dark Flowers

From a nursery
Of misery
She plants them in the park

By a statue
Is where she once lived
Where she grew them in the dark

She plants dark flowers
In the middle of the night
Dark flowers
Until the early morning light

She has dark flowers
In an empty room
She puts them outside
Where they grow beneath the moon

She wore dark flowers
All over her hair
And beneath dark flowers
No one knows not where

Now the time has come
And there’s only one
For the world to see

Now the lady’s gone
Along came someone
Who does this in her memory

She plants dark flowers
In an empty room
Dark flowers
Until they all have bloomed

Ancient City

Ciao ancient city
Answer your history calls
Where have you hid the people
Carved on these stone walls

Don’t stand alone in silence
Abandoned by the stretch of time
Don’t leave this world in ruins
Your beauty stolen like an ancient crime

There are those here left to see you
See how far they will roam
Look at how far they have traveled
So far away from home

How great you hide your secrets
In every stone from ceiling to floor
A passage through every doorway
Every archway of a place no more

No thieves in your marketplace
Dressed of a time gone by
Paved streets like sand have crumbled
Covered by grass and sky

Still ancient city
A colorful story you leave behind
Etched deep is your constant reminder
Remnants of an architects design

Adios ancient city
Stand for all to see
Stay for another tomorrow
And all through history

Moonshot

Shoot for the Moon

I have always heard the sound
That played the same old tune
Then it seemed to fade away
But it’s back again real soon

The words ring in my ears
But I won’t settle for less
I know what I’ve been told
And I always do my best

There is so little time
Until the clock ticks til it’s noon
There’s no limit I own my own sky
And shoot for the moon

I know some things take time
A day a month some years
But if I’m to succeed
I cannot quit for fears

And through the disappointments
That can hurt just like a wound
I quickly heal through turning points
Then still shoot for the moon

Not a day goes by without trying
From March, April and May
I won’t have to look back tomorrow
And wonder what I did today

And even this year
With so much rain this June
I have to keep on climbing
And shoot for the moon

Up and Away

The Painter

I’m more a million times than words
Don’t want to shout until I’m heard
I want to know someone believes in me

Don’t want to spend my life unknown
With all these dreams that are my own
I need the touch and feel of things I see

I’m going to paint a thousand times
Come discover this work of mine
I am my art and my art is part of me

I can’t describe it in a word
Because the meaning sounds absurd
I can’t explain it’s like a mystery

I only wish that I could tell
My visions not to cast this spell
It knows no words, no language I recall

Creative karma is in my soul
A brush of red and green and gold
Painting pictures to hang on the wall

I have to live my life this way
Can’t let expression pass away
I’m primed like canvas for the world to see

I may never come again this way
And colors are words I have to say
No one could know just what this means to me

And when the palette has done
All of its work for me the one
I’ll know what I have gained

Only when all of the work is gone
And all of the work I’ve done live on
The painter I shall remain

Alaska

I went to Alaska
With a friend with me when I
Spent some time alone
With the mountains and the sky

White mist tumbled slowly down your mountain
Across the ice as others start to crowd
The Golden Princess then sails away
While you’re still holding up the clouds

First there was Juneau
The Tram, Hatchery and Salmon Bake
The majesty of the Capital
So much for goodness sakes

Then off to wonderful Skagway
White Pass Railroad to the Yukon
There are not such things in my hometown
Not where I come from

Way up in the mountains
Three thousand feet or more
Thundering around a snowy atmosphere
Like I never have before

Riding in the very last rail car
I’m outside and oh so high
I am soon engulfed in a sea of white
And I’m riding through the sky

Everything around me
Completely covered all in white
There’s only snow and icy cold
In this world that has no night

A strange exciting landscape
But not yet in the afternoon
Like traveling along pure heaven
A winter landscape on the moon

Spiraling along the mountain
In a train and in the sky
Amazing someone built this
As far up as a bird can fly

The air is crisp and open
Where’s the sun that hasn’t shone
There’s a kind of different cold here
That can chill you to the bone

I’m heading into Ketchikan
But it’s raining something I did not wish
Everything smells of smoked salmon
Like a campfire all of fish

Then back on the ocean
And into Tracy Arms
Blue ice with a baby seal pup
Works magic like a charm

There is so much to see in Alaska
But there’s just one that’s half the battle
There’s much wind into Victoria British Columbia
So it’s onward to Seattle

Josh

The Explorer

I came upon an Explorer
Walking down Sixty First and Park
As soon as his eyes were upon me
I noticed he had an incredible spark

I sensed his worldly travels
It showed in every way
It's like he came from nowhere
Approaching me here, today

I mentioned that I'd watched him
And he was great and then I laughed
Filled with so much excitement
I regret there's no autograph

He thanked me and gently shook my hand
Brought a smile upon my face
When he slowly turned and walked away
How gentle was his pace

I'm left with a feeling of abandonment
The moment was so brief
How I crave to have his world
I can't he has to leave

I was touched by the Explorer
How well I know his name
It was soon after our meeting
Not long after I was not the same

The Moon

Last Night of the Moon

Blackened against a radian sun
surrounded by a fiery ring
no craters to soften a fallen star
cut down Apollo’s wing

In the early hours
on a sunny winter’s day
the moon took its position
where it would never stay

Pale in comparison
to a stratocumulus cloud
with a rainbow within it
that it carries proud

Then shone a jealous sun
who stole most part of the day
and put the moon on its back burner
blinding it by a ray

Now the moon was going through
a terrible phase
in the left corner of the sky
amongst a twilight haze

Bright in a summer sky
caught in a meteor shower
still the moon doesn’t pass through
this phase of its final hour

It still shows its face in spite
but the sun gets the last laugh
it still manages to smile
no one sees the other half

All those astronauts
did not see their doom
there’s no place left to land
sealed inside their tomb

Any lunar flights
will have to be real soon
when it’s out of sight
will be the last night of the moon
