My Summer of Asia

This midnight sidewalk
Below my feet
Through twisted cable
At first sight we’d meet

Faux shower rain
Through the mist in the air
And as if by magic
You were standing there

That very night
Another such man
My summer of Asia
How it all began

A beautiful moment
Sparkling and bright
Shiny as that star
That I see here tonight

Then through foreign eyes
That I just had to meet
Locking with mine
On this wet city street

Waiting so long
Now doesn’t seem so absurd
Our picture now taken
Worth a thousand words

Then onto Chinatown
Where I needed to be
The little China doll
Took a picture of me

Now this picture I have
I have so many more
It pleases me so
As I walk out her door

So many native leaves
Branched through my memory
Continue to grow
Beyond my Bonsai tree

Met so many races
On such long summer nights
My summer of Asia
Such wonderful sights

Serendipity then Karma
Feels just like Déjà vu
Viewing art from a painter
Who is Korean too

My talented Chinese friend
Came back to me
My summer of Asia
Is how it should be

The lessons I’ve learned
Let life take shape
Those beautiful faces
I cannot escape

That moment in time
Seems so far away
Though I am not in Asia
But it’s all good Feng Shui

I’ll remember those moments
So precious and few
I’ll never forget the second
That I had with you

I miss the calling and longing
You belonging right on cue
My summer of Asia
I miss you too
